Oz Lotto History
The first Oz Lotto draw was held in February 1994. Initially, the game had the same format as the Saturday Lotto, requiring players to select six numbers from a possible 45. This changed in October 2005, when a seventh number was added to the draw, which increased the odds against winning the jackpot.
As a result of this change, Oz Lotto became known as Super 7's Oz Lotto in the ‘Tatts’ regions and Oz 7 Lotto in Queensland. This name change lasted until 2012 when the original name of Oz Lotto was reinstated.
In November 2012, four ticket holders shared a jackpot of AU$111,972,151 – the biggest lottery prize to have ever been won in Australia at the time
The format of the game was updated in May 2022, with two extra numbers added so that players had to pick seven from 47. A third supplementary number also started to be drawn, so the overall odds of winning a prize improved even though the probability of winning the jackpot got lower. At the same time, the minimum jackpot increased from AU$2 million to AU$3 million.
