Canada 6/49 History
Canada 6/49 was first played in June 1982 and was Canada’s first nationwide lottery to allow players to choose their own numbers, rather than buying pre-printed tickets.
A midweek draw was introduced in September 1985 and the lottery continues to be held every Wednesday and Saturday.
Although the matrix of the game has never been changed, the jackpots and distribution of the prize funds have changed several times in the game’s history.
In 2004, an extra prize tier was introduced, which offered a cash prize to players matching two numbers plus the Bonus ball. In February 2013, another prize tier was introduced, giving all players matching just two main numbers a free ticket into the next draw.
A player from Mississauga in Ontario claimed the record 6/49 jackpot on 17th October 2015 when they won CAD $64 million.
