Canada 6/49 is the country’s most established national lottery, requiring players to match six numbers from a possible 49 in order to win the jackpot. In addition to the jackpot there are six further prize tiers offering prizes for matching from two numbers upwards. A total of seven numbers are drawn, with the final number acting as the Bonus ball. The Bonus ball enables players who have matched five numbers, or two numbers plus the Bonus number, to win bigger prizes.
Jackpots start at CAD $5 million and roll over until they are won.

Canada 6/49 History
Canada 6/49 was first played in June 1982 and was Canada’s first nationwide lottery to allow players to choose their own numbers, rather than buying pre-printed tickets.
A midweek draw was introduced in September 1985 and the lottery continues to be held every Wednesday and Saturday.
Although the matrix of the game has never been changed, the jackpots and distribution of the prize funds have changed several times in the game’s history.
In 2004, an extra prize tier was introduced, which offered a cash prize to players matching two numbers plus the Bonus ball. In February 2013, another prize tier was introduced, giving all players matching just two main numbers a free ticket into the next draw.
