Oz Lotto Overview
Launched in February 1994, OZ Lotto is responsible for some of the biggest jackpots in Australian lottery history.
At first, this game had the same format as the Saturday Lotto, meaning players had to choose six numbers from a possible 45. However, in October 2005, a seventh number was added to the draw, increasing the odds against winning the jackpot.
In May 2022, the format of the game was updated again and two extra numbers were added so that players could pick seven numbers from 47 available. A third supplementary number was also added, improving the overall odds of winning a prize but lowering those of winning the jackpot. The minimum jackpot amount was increased from $2 million to $3 million.
In order to enter, participants must choose seven numbers between 1 and 47 and tickets cost $1.50. Players must match at least three main numbers and one supplementary number to win a prize.

Oz Lotto Odds and Prize Divisions
The OZ Lotto Division 1 prize starts at $3 million and it jackpots every week until it’s won. The top prize can jackpot for a maximum of 25 consecutive draws. In case no one wins the Division 1 prize in the 26th draw, the amount will be added to the Division 2 prize fund and will be shared among the players of this category.

Winners: 4x (NSW, QLD, 2x VIC)
There were four winning tickets who managed to match all the numbers and win the largest OZ Lotto jackpot in the history of the game. The Division 1 prize was split four ways, with each ticket being worth more than $27 million. One of the winning entries belonged to a syndicate which had 80 members and each of them went home with $349,913. Two of the tickets were sold in Victoria, a third one in New South Wales, and the last one in Queensland.

This was a highly anticipated draw as, at that time, it was estimated that 1 in 3 adults entered. The Division 1 prize worth $106 million was won by two tickets. One of the entries belonged to a couple from Queensland who took home half of the prize, $53 million. They declared that a big portion of the amount would go towards supporting their family and charities. The other entry belonged to a man from Adelaide who, when he found out about the big win, said: “I have no idea how I’m ever going to sleep again.”

Winners: 2x (QLD)
Two ticket holders from Queensland shared the Division 1 prize worth $80 million, each of them taking home $40 million. One of the winners was from Ipswich while the other one was from the Sunshine Coast.
Both of them chose to remain anonymous but still shared their plans with the money. The winner from Ipswich said she would use some of the money for a long-awaited family holiday to Canada. The other one declared that his big dream was to go to the Italian Grand Prix.

The fourth-largest OZ Lotto Division 1 prize was shared amongst three players and each of them got $22.9 million. One of the winners was a mother from Adelaide, another was from Geelong West, and the third one bought their ticket from a 7-Eleven store in Sydney.

The fifth place in this top is occupied by three separate wins which happened in different years. The March 2019 draw brought the Division 1 prize to two winners. The winner from Victoria won two thirds of the $70 million prize as he bought two tickets by mistake. The other share of the jackpot was won by a participant from Hobart.
On 7 August 2018, the jackpot was won by two tickets. One of the lucky entries belonged to a family syndicate from north-east Victoria while the other one was a man in his 50s from Lithgow in New South Wales.
The lucky ticket which matched all the winning numbers in the 17 December 2013 draw belonged to a syndicate of friends from the Gold Coast in Queensland. The all-women group had just had lunch together and decided to use the loose change in order to buy a 12-game Quick Pick from the Golden News and Casket Kiosk in Runaway Bay.
How to Play Oz Lotto
If you want to enter OZ Lotto, you must choose seven numbers between 1 and 47. Three other supplementary numbers are drawn from the remaining pool of 40 balls. Besides the Standard Entry, also known as a ‘Marked’ entry in some territories, there are three other ways in which you can play OZ Lotto. You can check them out below and pick which one you think is best for you:
Quick Pick/Slikpik
Known as a SlikPik in Western Australia, the Quick Pick option takes off the pressure and randomly generates a set of numbers, ready for you to use. Simply select how many panels you want to play and you will get that many entries.
Pick entry
If you want to choose a Pick 6 entry, all you need to do is choose six numbers and mark the ‘System/Pick’ box. These six numbers will be accompanied by the remaining numbers, giving you a total of 41 games and guaranteeing that you will match at least one number. Alternatively, you can select the Pick 5 entry which works similarly, the only difference being that you pick five numbers and then two other numbers will be required to complete your line. If you choose a Pick 5 entry, you would play 861 games in total.
System entry
With a System entry, you must choose between eight and 20 numbers, then play every seven-number combination with your chosen range as a separate entry. Don’t forget to mark the ‘System/Pick’ box on your payslip and keep in mind that the cost increases the more numbers you pick.
